Fonds consists of records related to Lynx Images Incorporated film productions of: Ghosts of the Bay: the forgotten history of Georgian Bay; Toronto: stories from the life of a city; Alone in the Night: lighthouses of Georgian Bay, Manitoulin Island and the North Channel; Superior: under the shadow of the gods; Enchanted summers: the grand hotels of Muskoka; Mysterious islands: forgotten tales of the Great Lakes; Castles of the North: Canada's grand hotels; Mt. [Mount] Pleasant Cemetery; Alienation; Talking back; and Monumental. The records consist mainly of 16 mm motion picture film reels containing original silent colour negative camera rolls of footage shot by the Lynx Images team. Four of the 16 mm motion picture reels contain positive work prints, which are duplicates of four of the original silent colour negative camera rolls, except for being positives. Two of the reels shot for Ghosts of the Bay used 35 mm film. This footage may or may not have been part of final release prints. The records also include U-matic tapes, 1 inch video reels, and a Betacam SP videocassette containing duplicates of camera rolls, edited masters of final documentary productions, short educational and fictional programs and parts of documentary productions. The fonds also includes textual records that were found with the original film containers. These records were used to document record the processing and possible reformatting process for airing the films on Canadian national television. Published DVDs that originally accompanied the books that Lynx Images Inc. produced, were also donated and have been transferred to the Archives' library. They include Ghosts of the Bay: the forgotten history of Georgian Bay; Alone in the Night: lighthouses of Georgian Bay, Manitoulin Island and the North Channel; Superior: under the shadow of the gods; Enchanted summers: the grand hotels of Muskoka; Mysterious islands: forgotten tales of the Great Lakes; and Castles of the North: Canada's grand hotels. Most of the motion picture films were shot in Ontario, primarily Georgian Bay, Manitoulin Island, the North Channel, and Toronto, but some film was shot elsewhere in Canada, specifically in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Quebec and Saskatchewan; and in the United States, including Michigan, New York, Ohio, and Wisconsin. The fonds does not include a complete history of the film productions including camera rolls and other sound and moving image material created by Lynx Images Incorporated. It is not known where these records may be, or if they exist. The fonds is arranged mostly chronologically by film title, or numerically by camera roll number. The fonds consists of nine series, most of which are named after the associated films. |
