Files consist of oral history records documenting the life and career of Richard Chaloner (b. 1933), Director of Crown Attorneys, Deputy attorney General. Interview topics include: early years and education; law school at University of Toronto; Assistant Crown Attorney (Barrie, 1963); Assistant Crown Attorney (Guelph, 1966); Crown Attorney (Guelph, 1967-1983); Secretary Treasurer, Ontario Crown Attorneys Association (1968- 1973); President Ontario Crown Attorneys Association (1980-); Deputy Attorney General (1986- 1991); Director of Crown Attorneys (1983-1986); Central West Courts Administration Project (1974); Regional Crown Attorneys; Meech Lake; New Democratic Party (NDP) government; modernization of management process, Ross Peebles; Ian Scott and staff; relationship of DAG and Secretary of Cabinet; court reform; legislation. Interview conducted by Cynthia Smith. File includes nine audio cassette recordings from a series of four interviews, a transcript with index (336 p.) and a copy of a release form.
