Scope and Content:

Series consists of a patient register from the Convalescent and Fever Hospital in Toronto which was used to record the admission and discharge of patients. The hospital was a temporary facility set up to accommodate emigrants who had succumbed to the typhus epidemic prevalent at this time. Information is recorded under the following headings: date [of admission and discharge]; names; ages; men; women; boys; girls; destitute of parents; destitute of father; destitute of mother; widow; Protestant; Catholic; remarks. Adults and children of both sexes are listed. A large number of Irish names can be found in this register. The last part of this volume contains lists of the hospital's expenses.

Notes:

The exact location of the hospital is not indicated in the records, however, it was almost certainly in Toronto. Dr. Francis Primrose and Mr. Hayes, whose names appear in this volume, were the physician and hospital steward of the emigrant hospital in Toronto according to an entry in RG 11-1-0-3.
The name of the hospital as given in the series title is derived from an entry in the volume. A more generic term might be "emigrant hospital".
